Highlights From The May 2011 3D Advertising Summit

Recently Kerner Studios put on a day long 3D Advertising Summit in San Francisco, California.  If you don’t recognize the name Kerner you may recognize the infamous company Industrial Lights and Magic (ILM) which they branched out from a few years ago.  If you’re still completely clueless as to what this company does, you’re I’m sure familiar with some of their work.  Before ILM moved out, Kerner Studios was a very well kept industry secret where blockbuster films were shot under the direction of George Lucas’s special effects and modeling teams.  Their film and production roster includes Star Wars, Back to the Future, Men In Black, The Energizer Bunny commercials, The Bourne Series, Backdraft, and many more.  Recently Kerner studios have been the production standard for providing visual effects in the Pirates of the Caribbean series of movies, Transformers, Avatar, Iron Man, Terminator, Harry Potter, Star Trek Generations and others.  If you’d like to view their impressive list of productions both past and present, click here.

JVC's New Dual 1080i 3D Consumer Camera

It’s amazing how fast technology changes.  Just a matter of a couple of months ago I posted the blog about Panasonic’s new 3D camera right before Christmas 2010.  Now immediately on it’s heals, and recently released at CES 2011, JVC trumped that camera by leaps and bounds.

JVC announced their version of a consumer 3D camera that’s hitting the market soon.  Current official word from JVC is that it will be here sometime in March of 2011.  Here are some brief points that impressed us about this camera.

3D Content And HDMI Standards

The standards for HDMI seems to be changing on a faster pace as time goes along.  Now with the introduction of multiple formats for displaying 3D content HDMI has created another...no...wait...one ON TOP OF another format standard.  They came out with their “specification version 1.4.”  However, almost as quickly as they announced this new standard they came out with version 1.4a.

Here are some key points to the issue of 3D content and HDMI standards that you should be aware of whether you’re in the professional side or consumer end of the 3D tunnel of love.

3D Glasses- What Are Your Options?

I was recently reading a blog that was focused more on the STYLE than on the actual technical part of 3D and the glasses associated with viewing the virtual content.  The overall MARKETING aspect of the look and feel that style presents even in glasses is something that posts a viable topic.

Reading eye glasses are even no longer just for practical purposes, but they establish a fashion look as well as a “perception statement.”  Many have embraced or wrapped their own visual identity around using glassing today.  I have friends that are much more trendy and style savvy than I am that wear glasses as a STYLE statement only.  They don’t need prescriptions for a certain lens, but wear glasses with “dummy lenses” and frames that present a style statement.  When they are wearing them it is usually based on the reasoning of how they want to present themselves at meetings and with potential clientele.  Although from my point of view this track of thinking seems to be a little ridiculous, I do however get the perception and understanding of the concept.  Then again my preference is waiting as long as I can in life before getting glasses myself.
