What does a life coach, a director of Elko's United Way branch, and an evangelist all have in common? They were all attendees at the 2010 Nevada Interactive Conference in Reno, Nevada. This intense, multi-session conference hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno in early April was a one-day immersion in the many facets of social networking.
Evident Productions' owner Peter Blue gave a high impact presentation at the conference on "Maximizing The Potential Power Of Your Audience With Current Social Networking Trends." Blue's unique and engaging session brought an unusual yet motivating component to what normally is the "food coma" session post-lunch.
Blue jam packed the hour-long session with information on how the media is using social networking to gather information and how grass roots movements use the new technology to generate followings. Blue gave pointers on understanding demographics and showed how attendees could tap into the diversity of ethnic, age and regional groups to maximize brand marketing via social networking. Blue's pop culture references, such as understanding how American Idol stars use Twitter, brought a fresh and exciting way to explain current trends and understand how others have successfully reached new audiences via social networking sites.
Blue specifically addressed how non-profits could use social networking to promote their cause, increase fundraising and expand volunteer recruitment. This information was especially helpful to three non-profit organizers in the crowd, including a coordinator for the Reno hot air balloon race, a representative for Northern Nevada's Catholic Charities, and leader of a non-profit educational group. All told Blue they knew they had to get involved in social networking because "everyone else was doing it," but no one had so well explained before how the sites could work for their organization.
Blue's engaging style broke down the information they needed to know and gave them specific examples to get started on social networking.
"My goal is always for everyone to walk away with either facts, great tips, motivating information and free tools to help them effectively put social networking to work for their organizations or companies," Blue said. "Social networking trends are advancing constantly, so if I can help people glean information that can help them individually instead of bunching everyone into one big group, then I've done my job."
Blue's presentation at the conference has led to a stream of other invitations from non-profits, businesses and individual private groups because attendees were so impressed with how he engaged the audience in a conversation about how to best use social networking to meet their needs. Blue has expanded his speaking schedule because he found no one else was providing such integral information in such an understandable, applicable way.
