Last week we looked at how Kelly Clarkson’s perception changed from avoiding Twitter to using it to candidly connect with fans about moments in life SHE wanted to share.  This week, we’ll take a look at another successful American Idol artist that has become successful in his own right with his career beyond the television hit show.

Chris Daughtry-

Chris refused to get on or even check out Twitter for quite some time despite his wife persistently asking him to join in.  He I’m sure felt the same that so many others have prior to understanding the platform.  The thought of “it’s just another thing, or why do I need another social networking platform to clutter up my already busy life?”

What finally caught Chris, was not an idea, or thought that made the “light turn on” in his head about Twitter, but a jokingly yet “bro, what are you doing,” type of moment.  Rob Thomas, whom Chris is great friends with, started “following his wife” and likewise on Twitter.  If you don’t know anything about Twitter, it’s quite a simplistic platform.  You have 160 characters you post as your “tweet” that can be broadcast to followers, and on your twitter page, along with any social networking platforms you have linked to that twitter account.  All you have to do if an account is public is just click “follow” on a users account page, and you’ll start seeing what they post on twitter on your page along with any other accounts you might be following.

Chris’s wife Deanna and Rob started following each others accounts on Twitter which in turn made Chris turn his head.  That apparently was the stick that broke the proverbial camels back when it came to Twitter.  He thought he should give it a try if both of them are on it, then maybe he should take a look.  Chris blames his Twitter start on Rob as a result.  In a Newsweek article from July 11, 2009, Chris said he told Rob, “Dude, I hear You’re Tweeting my wife.  So now I’m joining just so I can monitor your conversations.”  He of course was joking with him, due to their great friendship, and of course it was all in good fun.  However it is humorous that slight jealousy in the end worked out for the best for Chris to get him on board with using Twitter.
