8 Points That SHOULD NOT BE MISSED When Playing In The Trade Show Big Leagues

Year after year when working on some of the largest trade shows in the world I have found that some of the same mistakes are made over and over again by many people.  The mistakes not only are time consuming, but in more than a few cases have caused burn out, unnecessary budget inflation for show costs. and other problems which could have easily been avoided by taking a dose of common sense along with some key steps.  Many of these mistakes have often inhibited the quality of presentation, eliminated potential opportunities for sales, or flat out gave the perception that products weren’t anywhere close to being ready for market.

Here are 8 Points that you should NOT overlook when playing in the big leagues when it comes to doing trade show events.

What Attracts People To Your Display?

A recent study by PPAI (Promotional Products Association International) in the US found that pre-show mailings which INCLUDED promotional products and NOT JUST literature about items are more effective than mailings without them.  Their findings discovered that by either including a promotional product with the mailing or an offer for a higher value item to be claimed at the show led to much larger numbers of recipients VISITING a booth to see the exhibitor’s product offerings.

This presents a challenge and a question.  What are you using to attract people to YOUR booth?  How are you building curiosity and interest in your exhibit?  What steps do YOU need to take in order to maximize the results at your next show or exhibit display event.

CES Highlights Wrap Up Part 2 of 2

For the 125,000 attendees of the CES 2011 convention the trade show floor had everything to offer.  25,000 of those attendees came from countries outside of North America.  Whether they were showing off their innovations, looking for partnerships or distribution outlets, or simply to find the products to provide their market the event had plenty to offer for all.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) who actually puts the event on in Vegas each January provided some incredible statements at their opening keynote.  The President, Gary Shapiro, stated that an estimated $128 billion in Consumer Electronics (CE) sales is projected in 2011.  By 2014 70% of all CE products will be connected to the internet.  That 70% also includes 30 million internet capable TV sets which will be purchased in the US alone.

The statistics and predictions as to what is coming next was further reinforced as you saw the diverse amount of innovation throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center where CES’s trade show floor was held.

CES 2011 Highlights Wrap Up Part 1 of 2

If there was anything that stood out at this years' CES it was that there were three areas that dominated the trade show floor above all the other technology.  Simply categorized it was all of the robots, the Android OS, and the onslaught of tablets that will be hitting the market in the next few months.

The theme for CES had nothing to do with putting 3D technology at the forefront of the exhibits.  The competitors to the iPad dominated the CES stage everywhere you looked.  From Samsung’s new tablet to be released by the end of the first quarter in some markets, to Toshiba’s prototype that still has yet to have a release date stamped on it, there were many exhibitors showing off products that are already present on the market and will be expected this year to compete with the iPad.

CES 2011 Day 3- 3M Multi-touch, Hulu Plus, And Cash For Your Old Electronics

More exciting new pieces of technology were shown off at CES on Day 3.  3M’s new multi-touch screen technology seemed to grab the attention of everyone passing by their booth without any other motivation or incentive.  The ability to be able to take the concept of pinching, sliding and other hand gestures on a screen surface at the same time with two hands is simply an evolution in processing, programming and interface that many have been looking to see debuted at the show for quite a while.

3M showed off real time gaming controls on their screen surfaces that had minimal response delay in programming.  Their flight simulator interaction which gave you steering control in one hand and acceleration in the other at the same time was something worth watching and fun to play with.
